Our History

I had the opportunity of learning about income taxes during my senior year at North Pitt High School

Bethel, NC;   I had twelve weeks of lessons in my home economics and bookkeeping classes.  Thank you

North Pitt High School (Class of 71).  During my first two years of college at East Carolina University I completed several tax returns for individuals at no cost; then one of the employees of the university, Mrs. Flossie Moye said to me “you should charge for your services – my refund is always right”

I was invited by the manager at H &R Block to take the class and I accepted a job offer in January of 1974.

I worked for H & R Block until the end of the tax season in 1977.  I made a life changing decision in 1978 to start Chance Tax Service in January of 1978.  It has been a great journey to work and live one of my passions of life of helping others.

We have the opportunity to serve over three hundred clients each year with the assistance of two part-time employees.  We offer professional year round service with a smile.  Excellent customer service is an integral part of our business.  We are accredited by the Better Business Bureau.

My Biography

I was reared on a farm in the northern part of Pitt County on my grandparents farm and then on a sharecropper farm.  I learned survival and work ethic skills after the loss of my mother when I was eleven years old.

I am a proud graduate of North Pitt High School (class of 71) and East Carolina University (class of 75) with a BS degree in History and Sociology.

One of my greatest passions is to help others in a time of need.  During my full time working years I had the opportunity to assist people with disabilities to find gainful employment for eighteen years.  I have also managed the outreach ministry and food distribution program at my church, St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church for the last eighteen years.

I am proud to say that I have operated Chance Tax Service for forty five years

I have two great children; my son Alexis and my daughter Katina and one grandson, Kendall

My life motto is simple: “If I can help someone along the way – then my living will not be in vain.” – Larry Chance, Owner
